I know it's been a while, but I have to stand up to cosplay bullying.
I was so happy to be featured on Otaku House with my boyfriend Tormantor with our Legend of Korra cosplays :
I really like this picture. Or so I did... Before all the mean comments we got on the Otaku House page : https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152166243752137&set=a.10152142177522137.1073741826.151208427136&type=1&ref=nf
We are human beings. We are not perfect. We do cosplays because we like the characters, their costumes and all. We don't do it because we are IDENTICAL to them.
I got tons of hate messages saying I'm too large, not the right skin color, that the costume was far from accurate and it was actually a fail. People that say those things don't understand how hard it is on your self esteem when most of the time you get nice comments for it.
Yes it's not 100% accurate because I only got a couple of days to make it before a con, so there's tons of little details I would like to change on it, but it's not FAR from accurate, it's just not perfect, like most costumes anyways.
I'm not darker skinned like Korra, I'm white. Actually, I'm a lot paler in real life than in the picture because I had tons of bronzer on... Are you saying I shouldn't cosplay her because I'm not the right skin color? Are you saying dark skinned people should not cosplay light skinned characters? That's ridiculous! Skin color or ethnic origins should not impact cosplay at all! Most anime/manga/video games refer to asian culture, so technically I'm
doind it wrong all the time. Read what she has to say about thats : http://www.xojane.com/issues/mad-back-cosplayer-chaka-cumberbatch
Hate beacause I'm too chubby? Had too many donuts? Come on people... it's not 3rd grade! Cosplay should not be defined by the physical shape. It's not because you're larger - or smaller - than a character that you won't portrait it nicely. Sure, you won't be PERFECT, but NOBODY'S PERFECT!!! Plus, Korra has an atheltic built. I'm less than 10 lbs away from her shape, so your point is invalid.
For
a community that gets bullied all the time for being nerds and weirdos, a lot of people sure can be asses. If this picture was showcased on Otaku House's Facebook page, it's because
it's a nice picture and the cosplays are more than decent. If you don't
like it, don't click "like". You don't have to bash anybody else's work.
Sorry for the angry post, but poeple just get me so mad sometimes.
Thanks for checking my new cosplay blog! If you have ANY questions, feel free to ask! I will gladly answer, whether it's english, french or spanish!

Makeup Tutorial - What to use?
I've been asked numerous questions on my Ysera makeup, and I'd like to share what I know with you guys!
First : where can I get makeup that will stay on for cosplays?
Well, it all depends on your location. Since I live in the Montreal region in Quebec, Canada, I knew some specialized shop where I could go. If you are from the same region, I highly recommend them to you. It's Makijaz and Image-In.
The first one is a bit tricky to get to, but it's worth it. They sell everything you need and will be able to help you if you have any questions. Be sure to call then before coming.
The second one is easy to acces by metro, and has more than just makeup : wigs, accessories and costumes. But, be careful, it might not be at the price you are looking for.
If you are outside of Montreal, then the ideal would be to order online. Most makeup compagnies will offer an online shop with shipping.
Second : What products should I buy?
I don't consider myself a makeup expert. If I have questions, I ask some of my friends, like Sandra-Rose and Marie-Perle (thanks girls for all you support! <3 ) or I just experiment. When thinking about Ysera, I knew I didn't want to have a body suit. Mesh bodysuits can be really nice looking if you know what you're doing, and spandez bodysuits will be really amazing if you know how to airbrush. That wasn't my case. So, I opted for makeup!
As a base coat, I used Kyolan Aquacolor.
It's nice and light on the skin if you apply it with a sponge. It might leave small marks when you're done, and that's why we need the second product.
As a cover coat, I used Mehron Starblend.
This makeup can be used WET OR DRY! The white, grey and black can be used dry directly on the skin (that's what we did with Tormantor's Deathwing), but with flashy colors like purple, it didn't look as nice, so that's why I used a base coat first. The Sratblend is a nice final touch, gicing the skin a fleshy and organic texture. Plus, it prevents the water-base makeup under it to reflect light when somebody take a picture with flash.
What I didn't do, and should have, was to SEAL the makeup. It prevents the makeup from rubbing off onto your costume. Here are different types of sealers.
Finally, the lips. Again, it's something I didn't do because I just kept putting my Starblend powder on top, but the lips should be lighter or darker than your skin (depending on the character). The best thing to use is an existing lipbalm or lipstick of the color of your choice. If it exists, good. If it does not, use a, oil based makeup. These don't dry. You will still have to touch up during the day, but at least your lips won't crack everytime your smile!
If you want to see the different colors available in Kryolan Aquacolor or Mehron Starblen, that have colorcharts on their respective websites :

First message on my new blog!
Hello Derps and Derpinas!
I'm YunaDaKilla and I'm a Canadian cosplayer. I wanted to create a place where I could post updates of my cosplays and other costuming project without using Facebook and then I remembered : BLOGSPOT! It's fairly easy to use and it's less work than a full website!
Now, to the point. Here I will post updates on cosplays, sometime tutorials or other stuff like videogame reviews (if I ever find a good microphone!). Eventually you'll have a link to my Youtube Channel : YunaDaKilla's Lair (yes, I'm a dragon and I'm ready for 40-raid team).
I'll try to update monthly (or more often if possible), but it might be hard. I'm still at university, and believe it or not, I'm not in the Arts department! I'm a soon-to-be microbiologist and school takes a lot of my free time, free time used usually for studies and cosplay XD.
On the right side of the blog --> there is a Pictures! space which redirects you to my Flickr account, where I will only put cosplay pictures. I still have to sort everything out, but I'll get there eventually!
That's all for tonight folks! I hope you will enjoy my little blog and be like be right now : ME GUSTA!
- Yuna
PS : This picture was taken by Nathalie at Montreal Comic-Con 2011. Yes, I'm yellow-ish. I was a Mirialan Jedi!
